Fill Out a PDF Form by Typing Your Answers
or drop files here
Each box, tick and drop-down in the form is listed under its own question, in the order it appears on the page. Type your replies, choose whether to lock them, and the finished form is put together on this computer rather than on ours.
Open, answer, hand it in.
Open the form
Drop in a fillable PDF from a bank, school, landlord or government office. Its fields are read and listed, grouped by the page they sit on.
Answer each question
Text boxes, check boxes, radio choices, drop-downs and lists appear as normal inputs. Required questions carry a red star and length limits show a live counter.
Save it finished or editable
Leave the lock on for a final version nobody can alter, or switch it off to hand back a form that the next person can carry on filling in.
Paperwork that arrives as a PDF.
Printing a form, writing on it and scanning it back is slow and often unreadable. If the form was built with fields, typing straight into them is quicker and cleaner.
Tax and benefit claims
Government agencies publish most of their paperwork as fillable PDFs. Typed answers avoid a clerk misreading your handwriting, and a locked copy cannot drift after you submit it.
Rental and job applications
Letting agents and recruiters often send a PDF and want it back the same afternoon. Fill it from whatever device is in your hand, without hunting for a reader app.
Consent and intake forms
School trip slips and clinic questionnaires are mostly names, dates and yes or no ticks. The check boxes and radio groups appear as real controls, so the right box gets marked.
Passing a form along
When a manager or co-applicant still owes a section, save with the lock off. Your part is filled, their fields are still open, and nothing has been flattened by accident.
Answers that vanish on phones
A value saved without a drawn appearance can look blank in a phone viewer or browser preview. Each answer is redrawn on save, so the reply is visible whichever app opens it.
Hybrid LiveCycle forms
Some older forms hold an Adobe XFA layer alongside the standard fields, and the two disagree between apps. The XFA copy is removed on save, leaving one version of your answers.
What a form field is, and what saving does to it.
A fillable PDF field has two halves. One is the value, the answer stored as data. The other is the appearance, a tiny drawing of that answer placed over the box. Viewers show the drawing, not the data, which is why a form filled by a careless app can look empty elsewhere: the value is there, but nobody drew it.
When the form opens, every field is read along with its tooltip, the plain-language question the author attached to it. Fields are then sorted by page, top to bottom and left to right, so the list follows the paper. Maximum lengths, read-only flags and required markers are taken from the file itself.
On save, your values are written in, fresh appearances are drawn for every field, and any XFA layer is deleted so Acrobat cannot show a stale copy. With locking on, those appearances are merged into the page and the empty form structure is removed, so the file no longer even prompts to be filled in.
What this tool can fill
| Form type | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard fillable fields (AcroForm) | Filled | Text, check boxes, radio groups, drop-downs and lists. |
| Forms with an XFA layer plus fields | Filled | The XFA copy is dropped so your answers are the only ones. |
| Dynamic XFA-only forms | Not possible | No standard fields exist; open them in Adobe Reader. |
| Scanned or printed-to-PDF forms | Not possible | No fields at all; add text boxes with Edit PDF. |
| Signature boxes | Listed only | Add the signature afterwards with Sign PDF. |
| Read-only and button fields | Left alone | Shown greyed out or hidden, never changed. |
