Sign a PDF Without Printing and Scanning

or drop files here

Draw your signature with a finger or mouse, type your name in a script style, or lift it from a photo of a signed sheet. Drop it onto the line, size it, and save. Your handwriting and the document both stay inside this browser window the whole time.

How it works

Open it, sign it, send it back.

Open the document

Drop in the agreement, form or letter. The pages render exactly as a viewer shows them, and the signature pad pops up on its own once the file is ready.

Make your mark

Pick Draw, Photo or scan, or Type. Choose black, blue, red or white ink, or any colour from the picker, and see a preview before it goes on the page.

Position it, then save

Drag the signature onto the line and pull its corner to size it. Add initials on other pages if needed, apply the changes and save the signed copy.

Use cases

Documents that just need your name on them.

Most signing requests are routine: a line at the bottom, maybe a set of initials. A visual signature handles them without a printer anywhere in the loop.

Offer letters and contracts

A new employer or client sends a PDF and asks for it back signed. Sign it at your desk in a minute instead of finding a printer, a pen and a scanner.

Leases with initials on each page

Tenancy agreements often want initials in a corner of every page and a full signature at the end. Each one is placed separately, so every page gets its mark.

Approving invoices and timesheets

Finance teams still like a visible signature on a purchase order or a weekly timesheet. A typed signature in a handwriting style is quick for routine sign-offs.

Signing from a phone

The pad takes a finger as well as a mouse or trackpad, so a permission slip or delivery form can be signed on a train, straight from the browser.

Reusing your real signature

Sign a blank sheet, photograph it, and the paper is removed so only the ink remains. Your own handwriting then appears on the document without a grey rectangle around it.

Certificates on dark designs

Award certificates and event passes sometimes have dark backgrounds where black ink disappears. White ink is one click away, and the preview uses the page colour.

Electronic signature or digital signature?

The two terms get used as if they meant the same thing, but they do not. What you make here is an electronic signature in its simplest form: a transparent PNG of your handwriting, drawn into the page content when you save. It is not a form field or a comment, so every viewer and every printer shows it, and it stays exactly where you put it.

A digital signatureworks differently. Signing software takes a fingerprint of the file's bytes, seals it with a certificate issued to you, and stores that seal inside the PDF. Change one byte later and a viewer reports the signature as invalid. This tool does not do that, and it would be misleading to suggest otherwise.

How each route builds the image: drawn strokes are smoothed into curves and trimmed to the ink. Typed names use handwriting fonts installed on your device, so styles vary between computers, but the result is fixed as a picture once placed. Photos have their lighting measured in tiles and divided out before a threshold separates ink from paper, which is why a shadowed phone snap still comes out clean.

Common questions

Questions answered.

Is a signature added this way legally valid?
For many everyday agreements, yes: laws such as the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS regulation accept a simple electronic signature like this one when both sides intend to sign. Some documents, such as wills, certain property deeds and some court filings, still need wet ink, a witness or a certificate-based signature. When in doubt, ask whoever receives the document what they accept.
What is the difference between this and a digital signature?
This tool adds a visual signature: a picture of your handwriting drawn onto the page. A digital signature is a cryptographic seal made with a certificate, stored in a signature field, that lets a viewer prove who signed and that nothing changed afterwards. This page does not create digital signatures; for that you need a certificate and a signing service or Acrobat.
How do I initial every page of a contract?
Place your initials once, select them and press Ctrl+C (Cmd+C on a Mac), then scroll to each following page and press Ctrl+V to drop an identical copy there. You can also press S on any page to open the signature pad again. Each copy is its own picture, so you can nudge it with the arrow keys to fit that page.
Will my signature have a white box around it?
No. Drawn and typed signatures are made on a transparent background, and the photo option lifts the ink off the paper, including shadows and uneven light. If faint strokes go missing from a photo, move the "Keep faint ink" slider up.
Can someone copy or remove my signature from the PDF?
Anyone with a PDF editor could, just as they could with a scanned signature, because it is an image on the page. If the recipient needs proof the document was not changed, use a certificate-based signing service instead. For simple deterrence, Protect PDF can restrict editing with a password.
The PDF was already digitally signed by someone else. Is that a problem?
It can be. A certificate signature covers the exact bytes of the file, and saving a new version here rewrites the file, so viewers will report the earlier signature as broken or the document as modified. Ask the other party whether a fresh signing round is needed instead.
Does the site keep a copy of my signature?
There is no account and no saved signature library. While you work, the session is kept in your own browser storage so a refresh does not lose it, and it is cleared when you save the finished file.
Can I sign a password-protected PDF?
The editor asks you to remove the password first, because a locked file cannot be rewritten. Run it through Unlock PDF with the password you were given, sign the unlocked copy, and add protection again afterwards if you need it.
Can I add the date and my printed name too?
Yes. The same editor has a Text box tool, so you can type the date, your name in capitals or a job title next to the signature. Everything you add is written into the page when you save.
