Resize PDF Pages to a New Paper Size

PDF

or drop files here

Move every page onto A4, Letter or a size you type, and decide whether the content shrinks to fit or keeps its exact size. Text stays vector, links follow their words, and the work happens in this tab.

How it works

Same pages, new paper.

Drop in the PDF

Choose the document that arrived in the wrong paper size. Files mixing several sizes and orientations are fine.

Choose the new sheet

Pick A4, Letter, Legal, A3, A5, Tabloid or your own width and height, then Scale to fit or Keep 100%. A small drawing shows page 1 on its new paper.

Save the resized file

Click Resize PDF and save it. Every chosen page now reports exactly the size you asked for.

Use cases

Why a PDF ends up on the wrong paper.

Paper sizes split the world in two, and plenty of offices, printers and upload forms accept only one of them. These are the situations that bring people here.

A4 documents for US printers

An A4 contract sent to an office in the United States meets Letter trays. Converting it first means it prints at a size you chose, not one a printer driver guessed.

Letter files for everywhere else

Reports written in the US reach Europe, India and Australia on Letter pages. Resize them to A4 before filing with an agency or university that works in metric paper.

Portals that check page size

Court e-filing systems, grant portals and thesis offices sometimes refuse anything that is not A4 or Letter. Resize the file so the size check passes before you submit.

Mixed sizes in one bundle

Scanned receipts, a Letter invoice and an A4 statement make an untidy pack. Resize each file before merging them, or merge first and bring every page to one size in a single pass.

Larger prints from vector files

Plans, charts and posters built from vector drawing can go from A4 to A3 without any blur. Photos inside are enlarged too, with the same pixels spread over more paper.

Room for notes or binding

Put an A5 handout on A4 with Keep 100% and it gains 31 mm of blank paper at each side and 43.5 mm at the top and bottom, space for handwritten notes or a hole punch.

Scale to fit or Keep 100%: a worked example.

Take an A4 page, 595 × 842 points (210 × 297 mm), and put it on Letter, 612 × 792 points (215.9 × 279.4 mm). Letter is a little wider but noticeably shorter, and the two options handle that mismatch in opposite ways.

Scale to fit compares both directions. Across, the page could grow by 612 ÷ 595 = 1.03; down, it has to shrink by 792 ÷ 842 = 0.94. The smaller number wins, so the whole page is drawn at 94%. It fills the height exactly, ends up 560 points wide and sits centred with 26 points (about 9.2 mm, or 0.36 in) of white at the left and right. Nothing is lost, and 11 pt body text prints at roughly 10.3 pt.

Keep 100% centres the A4 content on the Letter sheet untouched. Across, that leaves about 8 points (3 mm) of new white space on each side. Down, the page is 50 points taller than the sheet, so roughly 25 points (8.8 mm) at the top and the same at the bottom fall outside the page and are neither shown nor printed. That is harmless when those bands are blank margin, and a problem when a header or page number sits near the edge.

In both cases nothing is redrawn. The page's existing drawing instructions are wrapped in one scale-and-shift instruction, so fonts stay fonts, lines stay lines and photos keep every pixel, and the file barely grows. Links, form fields and comments receive the same scale and shift, which keeps each link sitting on the words it belongs to.

Common questions

Questions answered.

Does resizing a PDF make the text blurry?
No. Text and vector drawing are scaled by an instruction inside the page, not turned into pixels, so they stay sharp at any zoom. Photos keep exactly the pixels they had, which means a picture enlarged from A4 to A3 is spread over more paper and shows its detail a little more coarsely.
What is the difference between Scale to fit and Keep 100%?
Scale to fit shrinks or enlarges each page until it fits the new sheet in both directions, then centres it, so nothing is cut off. Keep 100% leaves the content at its original size and only changes the sheet around it, which can add white space or push the edges off the page.
Do links still work after resizing?
Yes. The clickable area of every link, form field and comment is moved and scaled with the same numbers as the page, so it stays over the words it belonged to. A bookmark that jumps to an exact spot on a resized page may land slightly above or below that spot, because such targets are stored as coordinates.
Can I make every page in a mixed file the same size?
Yes. Each page is fitted to the new sheet on its own terms, whatever its starting size. With Match each page, landscape pages get a landscape sheet and portrait pages a portrait one; choose Portrait or Landscape if every sheet must face the same way.
Will the new page size be exact?
Yes. Pages are set to the standard dimensions in points, for example 612 × 792 for Letter and 595.28 × 841.89 for A4, so software that reads the page size sees exactly that paper. Print-production boxes such as the TrimBox and BleedBox are removed, because they would no longer line up with the new sheet.
Which custom sizes can I use?
Any width and height from 25 mm to 5080 mm, which is 200 inches and the largest page most PDF software will open. The orientation setting decides which side runs across, so 100 × 150 and 150 × 100 give the same result with Match each page.
Will my printer cut off the edges?
Only if the content now runs right up to the edge of the sheet. With Scale to fit, each page touches two opposite edges, and most home printers cannot print the outer 3 to 5 mm. Documents with ordinary margins are unaffected; for pages printed edge to edge, allow the print dialog to shrink the page slightly.
What happens to content that was already cropped?
It stays hidden. Before scaling, each page is clipped to the area that was visible, so margins someone trimmed earlier do not reappear on the new sheet.
Is my PDF uploaded to resize it?
No. pdf-lib rewrites the page sizes in a Web Worker inside your browser, and the drawing of page 1 on its new sheet comes from pdf.js on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere, so the tool is safe for contracts and personal records.
